Actors Equity Contracts, Explained With Receipts

About the course:

This course breaks down Actors' Equity and non-Equity agreements so that theatre artists can use their contracts as active tools for protection — not just paperwork to sign. Using real data from Equity's 2022–2023 Hiring Bias and Wage Gap Report, participants learn how persistent disparities in hiring and pay show up across contract types — and how to read, question, and leverage contract language to address inequity and workplace harm.

Included in the e-learning membership suite for $49 annually

What You'll Learn:

  • The key protections built into production contracts — Broadway, Off-Broadway, and LORT — and the red flags that signal those protections are being ignored
  • How SPT and developmental agreements differ, what risks come with lower-tier contracts, and what to confirm in writing before you sign
  • What must be in every employment contract — including non-Equity — and which open-ended or "verbal agreement" arrangements are actually red flags
  • How to use your contract to respond to workplace harm: naming issues early, referencing contract language, using reporting structures, and knowing retaliation is prohibited

Who It Is For:

Actors, stage managers, and theatre artists at any career stage navigating Equity and non-Equity work environments
